Turkey Culls Stirs Animal Rights Orgs.’ Ire

NEW YORK (AP) -

The culling of some turkeys at a Staten Island mental health facility has animal rights groups’ crying fowl.

The USDA took a number of the birds away from the grounds of the South Beach Psychiatric Center on Monday and Tuesday and euthanized them.

Animal advocate David Karopkin of GooseWatch NYC decried the killing. “For them to say there was no alternative other than rounding them up and slaughtering them is outrageous,” he said.
