NY Offers Legal Counseling to Fight Foreclosure
New York is offering legal advisers to help homeowners navigate the complex route to fight foreclosure.
Attorney General Eric Schneiderman is releasing a public service announcement that tells New Yorkers how they can get free housing counseling and legal assistance. Homeowners struggling with their mortgage lenders can call the state foreclosure hotline at 855-HOME-456.
The state will direct homeowners to organizations and agencies in their area for help including advocacy with lenders, financial counseling and assistance preparing documents.
Schneiderman says 7,400 homeowners have been counseled in the first five months of the program.
