NJ Firefighter Indicted for Superstorm Gas Sales
A northern New Jersey firefighter who allegedly sold gasoline from his pickup truck after Superstorm Sandy hit has been indicted on a charge of creating a risk of widespread injury or damage
Marc Jackson of East Orange could face up to five years in prison if convicted. Prosecutors say the 27-year-old tried to sell about 290 gallons of fuel from his truck to storm-weary residents. He was arrested on the first day of state-mandated gas rationing.
Meanwhile, two New Jersey gas stations agreed to pay a combined $46,000 to settle claims they gouged prices after Sandy.
The settlement states a Clifton station hiked the cost of regular gas from $3.49 to $4.69. A station in Piscataway upped the cost from $3.79 to $4.49.
