Rafael Concludes Testing for Integrated SPYDER Air Defense System

By Yoni Weiss

Rafael Advanced Defense Systems successfully concluded trials for the SPYDER all-in-one advanced air defense system in collaboration with the Ministry of Defense Directorate of Defense R&D.

The SPYDER series of advanced air defense systems, operational in various armed forces globally, including the Czech Republic, offers defense solutions across diverse threats like drones, aircraft, helicopters, and tactical ballistic missiles (TBM).

This system utilizes two types of interceptors — Python and Derby — manufactured by Rafael. Recently, Rafael unveiled the All-in-One configuration for the SPYDER system, presenting a comprehensive air defense system with integrated radar, specialized electro-optical payload, advanced command and control system, and Python and Derby interceptors, all mounted on a single vehicle.

This configuration offers a flexible solution for point defense or safeguarding against maneuvering forces, operating either within a SPYDER battery or as an independent deployment handled by a small team. In recent Israeli trials replicating existing and future threats, the SPYDER system in its new configuration successfully intercepted a UAV, demonstrating its precision in challenging operational scenarios.
