New York Times Crossword Puzzle Resembles Hate Symbol

Sunday’s New York Times’ crossword puzzle contained an image that was jarring to many readers.
The pattern left by the black and white blocks forms an image that many say looks very similar to a Swastika.
City Councilman Kalman Yeger wrote on social media regarding the puzzle, and its timing; “A hidden Happy Chanukah message in today’s New York Times crossword?” City Councilwoman Inna Vernikov, replying to Yeger, wrote “Seriously New York Times!?”
When shown a picture of the crossword puzzle, a Midwood resident who has vision problems immediately recognized the symbol.
