Two weeks ago there was a full-page message published in Hamodia which outlined the threat facing Jewish cemeteries throughout much of Europe. Of special concern is the imminent desecration facing the Shnipishok Jewish cemetery in Vilnius because of a concert and convention center soon to be established there.
The U.S. Department of State and the U.S. Commission for the Preservation of America’s Heritage Abroad have both failed to issue statements opposing this deeply offensive use of the sacred site. This suggests that additional voices need to be heard on the subject.
Should readers have occasion to meet members of Congress and/or administration officials, it would be most helpful were they to mention the plight of Jewish cemeteries in Europe as an important concern of the Jewish People.
