I was pleased to read in Hamodia Prime, January 8, 2020, the interview with Mr. Danny Danon, Israel’s current Ambassador to the U.N. Mr. Danon is a person of courage and integrity who represents the interests of the State before a mostly hostile audience.
He also shared his view concerning the draft issue of the chareidi youth. His remarkably honest comment on this issue was precisely the assertion of Rabbi Heschel in his opinion piece: that the aim is not the need for more manpower in the army — which is not the case — but to turn chareidim into mainstream, “openminded” Israelis.
I want to laud Mr. Danon and Rabbi Heschel for those “openminded” comments on this most controversial topic in Israeli politics.
