$6,000 In Stolen Quarters Found in California Baby Stroller
BAKERSFIELD, Calif. (AP) – Authorities say a woman stole $6,000 worth of quarters and her getaway car was a baby stroller.
Bakersfield police officers noticed the woman Friday struggling to push the stroller but quickly realized there was no baby inside, according to the Bakersfield Californian.
Police discovered the quarters, which 29-year-old Darrin Fritz is alleged to have stolen from a home, the newspaper reported. Fritz allegedly tried to flee from the officers.
She was arrested on suspicion of burglary, possession of stolen property, possession of burglary tools, resisting arrest and two outstanding misdemeanor warrants.
A post on Twitter from the Bakersfield Police Department shows thousands of quarters in evidence bags.
It was not immediately clear if Fritz had an attorney who could speak on her behalf.
Man Briefly Steals Ambulance From Philadelphia Hospital
PHILADELPHIA (AP) – Philadelphia police say a man stole an ambulance from a city hospital and took it for a short drive before being captured.
The theft occurred around 9:20 p.m. while paramedics were inside Methodist Hospital. A 40-year-old man got in the unoccupied vehicle and drove off, only to be captured a few minutes later.
Authorities believe the man was dealing with mental-health issues, so he was taken to a hospital for an evaluation. His name was not released, and authorities say it’s unlikely he’ll face charges.
No injuries were reported in the incident, and the ambulance was not damaged. Authorities say nothing was taken from the vehicle.
Bottoms Up, Fire’s Out: German Man Douses Fire With Beer
BERLIN (AP) – A German motorist is being credited for his quick thinking after his engine caught fire on the Autobahn. He turned to a slightly different foam extinguisher to douse the flames: bottles of beer.
Police told the dpa news agency that the man was on the highway near the town of Hoesbach in Bavaria when he smelled something odd.
Pulling over, the man spotted flames under the hood of his car. He quickly grabbed bottles of beer from a case in his car and quenched the fire.
Authorities say the fire department responded but there was nothing left for them to do.
Dazed and Confused Deer Gets Trapped in Italy’s Resort Shop
ROME (AP) – A dazed and confused deer has stormed into a clothing store in the fashionable mountain resort of Cortina d’Ampezzo, on the Italian Dolomites, blocking the local shopping street for a few hours before been saved and freed.
Local authorities said Tuesday that the deer, estimated to be 4 or 5 years old, entered the shop, specialized in Tirolese outfits, while the assistant was away, and got trapped inside among the clothes.
Authorities said It was necessary to cordon off Cortina’s shopping square to allow local veterinarians to catch the animal, anesthetize it and then bring it back to the wild.
Cortina mayor Gianpaolo Ghedina said that “luckily, all ended well. Once the animal was sedated, it was brought back to the woods and then freed.”
