Tractor Trailer Hits Train Overpass, Splits in Half

BROOKLYN

At 10:30 P.M., a tractor trailer travelling eastbound on Avenue K in the Midwood section of Brooklyn hit the elevated tracks of the Q train tracks between East 15th Street and East 16th Street, which caused the trailer portion to be sliced in half, spilling its contents over the street.

A sign on the approach to the tracks states that the clearance is a low 10 feet and 8 inches, but it is not always noticeable to drivers of 18 wheel trucks. This is the second time in the past half year that a truck taller than the clearance has crashed into the overpass.

Drivers are advised to avoid this portion of Avenue K in order to allow police and emergency crews to clean up the spillage before the morning rush hour traffic.
