Balloon-Borne Explosives From Gaza Land in South, No Injuries

B’chasdei Shamayim, no injuries were reported after two explosive devices were flown by terrorists over the Gaza border into southern Israel on Tuesday.

In the first of two attacks, both carried by clusters of balloons, a device exploded in an agricultural field in the Eshkol region.

“According to farmers, there was a blast, but it did not cause harm to people or property,” the local regional council said in a statement.

That incident was followed several hours later, when another such device landed inside a community in the Sha’ar Hanegev region, according to local officials.

“The device attached to the cluster of balloons exploded in an open area. There were no injuries or damage to property,” a Sha’ar Hanegev spokesperson said.

The incidents occurred during a visit of Egyptian mediators to Gaza, whose purpose was reportedly to calm tensions between Hamas and Israel.

Also, on Tuesday evening, two Palestinians were wounded by Israeli military fire during a riot along the Gaza security fence, east of the Bureij refugee camp, the Hamas-run health ministry said.

It was part of a series of border disturbances on recent nights involving explosives, burning tires and rock-throwing at Israeli troops, who typically respond with tear gas and, in some cases, live fire.
