Third Terrorist Killer of Off-Duty IDF Soldier Convicted

The third terrorist involved in a 2016 terror attack at the Rami Levy supermarket in Sha’ar Binyamin has been convicted on terror-related charges. Sentencing will take place at a later date. Two other terrorists have already been convicted and sentenced to life in prison in the attack.

Murdered in that attack was Tuvia Yanai Weissman, Hy”d, an off-duty IDF soldier who was shopping with his wife and child and confronted a gang of teenage terrorists who went on a stabbing spree. Weissman tried to fight the terrorists off barehanded without a weapon. The off-duty soldier had asked to be allowed to take his weapon with him during his two weeks off from the army, but was turned down.

IDF soldiers overnight Tuesday seized weapons that were to be used in terror attacks. Soldiers, working with police, discovered weapons in a house in Beit Lechem. Among the weapons were pistols, hand grenades, and a large amount of ammunition. The owner of the house was arrested and questioned on what the weapons were doing there.

In a statement, the army said that such weapons were used in terror attacks as well as for criminal activity, and that security forces were determined to seize all weapons that were being held illegally by all people, in order to better protect all Israelis and residents of Palestinian Authority-controlled areas, who are also under threat by terrorists and criminals.

Overnight Tuesday, security officials said they arrested 18 wanted security suspects in other areas in Yehudah and Shomron. The suspects were wanted for participating in rioting and throwing stones and firebombs that endangered Israeli civilians and IDF soldiers. Several of the suspects were also charged with belonging to Hamas. All were being questioned on their activities by security forces.
