Reb Yossi Oren, z”l, a 50-year-old plumber passed away Tuesday morning after becoming trapped in a sewer pit in Modi’in Ilit, Magen David Adom emergency responders said.

Reb Yossi and another worker descended into the municipal pit on Avnei Nezer Street to clear a sewage blockage, where he slipped. The other worker, 26-years-old, was seriously injured and was hospitalized at Assaf Harofeh Shamir Hospital in Tzrifin.

R’ Yossi made his livelihood as a plumber, but was dedicated to Torah study. He loved the Torah and those who studied it. He worked as a plumber in the city for decades and dealt faithfully with people, being a straight and yerei Shamayim person.

His neighbor who came to help him, Yehuda Aryeh ben Shulamis, was seriously injured when he also fell into the pit, and all are asked to daven for his complete refuah.

R’ Yossi’s body was released for burial with the assistance of the legal department team of ZAKA.

His levayah will take place Tuesday afternoon from his home at 10 Sdei Chemed Street in Modiin Illit, where the Rav, Harav Meir Kessler, will deliver a hesped, and then to the Elad cemetery where he will be buried.

He left behind his family and 11 children.

Yehi zichro baruch.
