Two Reservists Killed in Hamas Mortar Attack in Central Gaza

Two IDF reservists were killed in a Hamas mortar attack in the central Gaza Strip on Thursday, the IDF announced Friday morning.

The soldiers were identified as Sgt. First Class (res.) Omer Smadga, Hy”d, 25, from Genot Hadar, and Sgt. First Class (res.) Saadia Yaakov Derai, Hy”d, 27, from Tel Aviv, both of the Alexandroni Brigade’s 9203rd Battalion.

Three other soldiers from the Alexandroni Brigade were seriously wounded in the incident, according to the IDF.

Hamas claimed responsibility for the mortar fire, stating it targeted a military position near Gaza City’s Zeitoun neighborhood.

These fatalities bring the total number of IDF troops killed in the ground offensive against Hamas and operations on the Gaza border to 314.
