Gedolei Yisrael Coming to America to Launch Keren Olam HaTorah

By Hamodia Staff

A historic mission led by Gedolei Eretz Yisrael will arrive to launch the Keren Olam HaTorah, a fund designed to supply the funding to mosdos haTorah in Eretz Yisrael that has recently been discontinued by the courts and the government.

For 40 years, the government of Israel provided a substantial percentage — between 20% and 30% — of the budgets of these mosdos. Recent court rulings have ordered these funds to be withheld. To fill the gap, a delegation of five Gedolei Torah will join for a historic journey to America to inaugurate the fund which will assist these mosdos in their holy mission of limud haTorah.

The campaign will be led by shlita: Harav Dov Lando, Rosh Yeshivas Slabodka; Harav Moshe Hillel Hirsch, Rosh Yeshivas Slabodka; the Mashgiach Harav Don Segal; Harav Yaakov Hillel, Rosh Yeshivat Ahavat Shalom; and Harav Duvid Twersky, Rachmastrivka Rebbe of Yerushalayim.

Harav Moshe Hillel Hirsch, who already arrived in America to attend the Adirei HaTorah event held on Sunday, 10 Sivan/June 16, spoke how the yishuv in Eretz Yisrael requires tremendous siyatta diShmaya, and we must increase our hachzakas haTorah and kvod haTorah, the support and honor of the Torah, in order to merit this continued siyatta diShmaya. “We must keep in mind that Torah protects our nation, and now in our time of need we must increase our connection to Torah,” Rav Moshe Hillel said.

The Gedolei Yisrael will arrive on Sunday, 17 Sivan/June 23, and will begin a whirlwind series of visits to numerous communities to encourage full-fledged contributions from the Jewish communities throughout the area. This will afford these communities a rare opportunity to meet the Gedolei Torah to show their support and receive their brachos.
