2 Suspects Arrested for Mail Theft in Williamsburg

By Matis Glenn

Two men were arrested early Tuesday morning for allegedly stealing mail from Williamsburg residents’ mailboxes, Shomrim tells Hamodia.

Shomrim had received multiple calls in recent days from people who were victims of mail theft, and had obtained a license plate number of the suspects.

Members were patrolling the streets on the lookout for the thieves at around 4:00 a.m., when a car with the corresponding license plate was spotted on Hewes Street and Marcy Avenue. Shomrim followed the car, and sure enough, one of the suspects opened a mailbox and stole its contents.

Police were called and came within minutes to arrest the driver and the alleged thief, who were taken into custody at Harrison Avenue and Rutledge Street.

Shomrim say that the suspects were using special keys to open mailboxes, but they believe the suspects discarded them before being arrested, as they were not yet found by police.
