Suspected Police Impersonator Arrested in Bay Ridge

A man suspected of impersonating police in the 121st Precinct on Staten Island last week was arrested in Bay Ridge on Tuesday, May 23, after he attempted to rob a house in the area.
The suspect is accused of impersonating an officer by pulling over vehicles using lights and sirens, and then demanding money to let the drivers go.
On Tuesday, the NYPD received a License Plate Reader (LPR) hit of the suspects car crossing the Verrazzano Narrows Bridge and police followed the suspect’s car using arial surveillance via helicopters.
A 911 call came in describing a break-in at 73rd Street and 15th Avenue, and by the time the police arrived the suspect had escaped through a rear door in the house.
A few minutes later. Another 911 call came in that a person had hidden in the rear of a UPS truck at 72nd Street and 14th Avenue. The police surrounded the truck and extricated the suspect, who they took into custody without incident.
