Gunshots Ring Out Outside Djerba Shul
By Hamodia Staff
Police in Djerba, Tunis responded to reports of gunfire outside the El Ghriba synagogue at a time when many Israeli tourists were in attendance for the annual Lag Ba’omer celebration.
One police officer and two others were killed, and it is unclear if any of the Jews in the shul were hurt in the incident.
Jews in Djerba have been on guard lately due to increased threats against the community.
Sources on the ground in Djerba have reported to Hamodia that someone, possibly a guard at the naval center of the National Guard in Djerba, who not in the shul got into an altercation with a security guard and grabbed his gun and killed him. Another guard neutralized the assailant.
The incident does not seem to be related to the Jewish community of Djerba.
