The Yerushalayim municipality endorsed plans for a new light rail line connecting several southern neighborhoods on Sunday.

The proposed “purple line” will connect the southeast neighborhoods of Talpiyot with the German Colony, Malcha Mall and end at Hadassah University Hospital-Ein Kerem in southwestern Yerushalayim.

“The route of the purple line is part of an overall plan for the development of the light rail network in Yerushalayim,” said Mayor Moshe Lion. “The operation of the line will improve accessibility between the various parts of the city, allow for optimal utilization of the land resource, contribute to preserving the environment and advance the development of the city.”

Other lines in various stages of planning will connect other Yerushalayim neighborhoods.
