False Alarm Causes Yeshiva, Street Lockdown on Coney Island Avenue
By Matis Glenn
After receiving an apparently false report of a gunman barricading himself in an apartment on Coney Island Avenue, police closed down the area which included a Yeshiva, according to a source familiar with law enforcement.
Police answered a call at around 12:30 p.m. from a man, saying that he has a gun and is planning on shooting people. The apartment he said he was calling from is located on Coney Island Avenue between Avenues V and W. Police arrived at the scene, closed off the area, and placed Yeshiva Darche Eres Boys’ High School, located on the block, on lockdown.
At around 2:05 p.m., it was determined that the supposed gunman was not in the building, and an order was given to re-open the street and inform the yeshiva that there was no present threat.
