The suspect in Monday’s horrific car ramming spree in the Bay Ridge area of Brooklyn was charged Tuesday evening, and appeared in court Wednesday.

Weng Sor, an emotionally disturbed man with a history of violence, allegedly drove his rented U-Haul truck into nine people at eight locations in the busy neighborhood, killing one man and injuring eight others. He struck cyclists, people riding on mopeds, pedestrians, and a police car, injuring an officer inside. The deceased victim, a 44 year old single father whose name has not been released, died of head trauma shortly after the incident.

Sor, 62, was charged with murder, attempted murder and assault. While being escorted out of the 68th precinct Tuesday night to be held until trial, he was heard saying something incoherent about a “war.” Police said later that Sor made statements about seeing “invisible objects” approaching the truck he was driving, and that he had “had enough.”

At his Wednesday court appearance, Sor did not submit a plea; he was remanded, and the judge granted his attorney’s request for a psychiatric evaluation.

Sor had rented the U-Haul truck in Florida and had driven to Brooklyn, where his ex-wife and son live. He came to their house in the middle of the night on February 6.

Records show Sor was convicted and served time for multiple acts of violence, including stabbing his own brother.

Sor’s next court date is March 16, pending the evaluation.
