Officer Adeed Fayaz

Adeed Fayaz, the off-duty police officer who was shot by an attempted robber on Saturday, has succumbed to his wounds Tuesday afternoon, a source familiar with the investigation told Hamodia.

Officer Fayaz had arranged a meeting with a man he met on social media to buy a car in East New York, which turned out to be a ploy to rob him and a relative who came along.

When held at gunpoint, Officer Fayaz drew his service weapon, but was hit by a bullet before being able to defend himself. A relative at the scene fired back at the suspect, but missed.

The suspect, Randy “Popper” Jones, 38, of Harlem was arrested Tuesday as well, according to the New York Post, mere hours before Fayaz was pronounced dead at 3:25pm.

Officer Fayaz was 26 years old, had served on the force for five years, and was stationed in the 66th precinct in Boro Park.

He leaves behind a wife and two children.
