Two people were killed late Wednesday night when a car overturned in Yerushalayim and then careened into a pedestrian, Israel Police said.

Adira Koffsky, a 19-year-old seminary student from Long Island, and a man from Jerusalem were killed in the accident, according to The Jerusalem Post. The woman driving the vehicle, 76, was seriously injured.

The accident happened on Azriel Hildesheimer Street in the German Colony neighborhood. The narrow street is in some parts steeply inclined and there was heavy rain on Wednesday night.

An initial police investigation found that the car was apparently traveling fast along the street and hit a safety barrier. The car then overturned and continued to slide down the street, hitting the pedestrian.

The two people in the car were trapped inside the badly damaged vehicle, requiring emergency services to extract them.

The seriously injured woman was taken to the Shaare Zedek Medical Center.
