String of Bike Thefts in Boro Park

By Matis Glenn

A suspect is seen stealing bicycles outside a residence on 18th Avenue and 57th Street.

Four bicycles were stolen last week, possibly by a group of thieves targeting Boro Park.

On Wednesday morning at around 2:40 a.m., surveillance footage outside Karlin-Stolin yeshiva on 18th Avenue and 54th Street shows a suspect riding on a bike and approaching a locked bicycle. He is seen cutting the lock off of the bike, and driving off, riding the bike he came with, and holding the second bike by the handlebars.

Another two thefts occurred nearby on Thursday and Friday, on 18th Avenue and 57th Street, where what appears to be a different suspect is seen cutting the chains on bicycles parked outside the same residence, in video footage provided exclusively to Hamodia.

On Thursday night at around 7:30 p.m., the suspect is seen storing his plundered goods across the street. According to Shomrim, this is likely because he was planning on selling the bicycle, and needed a place to stash it until he could secure a buyer. Since it was raining heavily that night, he did not suspect that it would be recovered anytime soon.

Thursday’s suspect seems to have become emboldened by his previous alleged crime, as he returned to the scene of the first theft in broad day light on Friday afternoon at around 12:50 p.m., this time approaching on foot. He made off with two bicycles in the same manner as Wednesday’s alleged thief, riding one and holding the other in tow.

Anyone with information regarding the suspects is urged to contact NYPD and Shomrim.
