Assemblyman Simcha Eichenstein has been appointed to the position of Assistant Majority Whip in the New York State Assembly, on the opening week of the Legislature’s 2023 session.

Eichenstein, a Democrat, was elected in 2018 to represent District 48, which includes most of Boro Park and part of Midwood, filling a seat vacated by former Assemblyman Dov Hikind.

Assembly Speaker Carl Heastie appointed Eichenstein to the position.

“I am proud to have appointed Assemblymember Simcha Eichenstein to serve as Assistant Majority Whip for the Assembly Majority,” Heastie said in a statement. “He is a valued member of the Assembly and will be an asset to our leadership team. It is critical to me that our team be representative of the communities we serve, and I look forward to working with Assemblymember Eichenstein to lead New York forward in the term ahead.”

Eichenstein, 39, has risen through the ranks and is now the 13th highest-ranking of the chamber’s 102 Democrats.

“I am honored to have been appointed as Assistant Majority Whip and want to thank Speaker Heastie for entrusting me to carry out the duties inherent in this position,” Eichenstein said in a statement. “As always, I am committed to advocating for my constituents who have put their trust and faith in me by giving me the privilege of representing them in this great chamber. I will do my best to fulfill my responsibilities and will continue to work tirelessly on their behalf.”
