The provisional Foreign Affairs and Defense Committee, chaired by MK Yoav Gallant (Likud), held a meeting on Tuesday for the purpose of expanding the intelligence, operational and diplomatic knowledge on the issue of Iran.

In the classified meeting, committee members heard briefings from leading professionals in the field, including Yehoshua Zarka, deputy director-general for Strategic Affairs at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, a colonel from the IDF Military Intelligence Research Department, and senior officials from the Mossad and other security agencies.

The committee members were given a comprehensive briefing on Iran from the governmental, economic, diplomatic and security aspects.

Members of the committee heard the assessments of the different bodies regarding the foreseeable developments in the coming years. From the diplomatic angle, the committee members heard about Israel’s activity on the Iranian issue.

At the request of Committee Chairman MK Gallant, a special emphasis was placed on the issue of Iran’s hostile activity against Israel — in military, security and diplomatic terms — on the various fronts, whether on its own or by proxy.

The committee members and the committee chair expressed their appreciation and thanks to the professional officials for the substantive, open and balanced presentation.
