YERUSHALAYIM – Faced with terrorist activities and deadly incidents on an upward trajectory, Israeli security forces are seeking ways to expand the counter-terror toolkit.

The Shin Bet has recommended to the IDF and other security services that they impose closures on cities with high levels of terrorist activity, notably in the northern Shomron areas of Jenin and Shechem.

Cities and towns with relatively low incidents of terrorism will be allowed a “breathing” closure to allow for normal life to continue, according to the report. Since Operation Break the Wave began to counter the rise of terrorist activity five months ago, over 2,050 operations were carried out, with around 1,500 wanted individuals apprehended and hundreds of weapons seized. More than 90 Palestinians were killed during IDF raids.
