By Matis Glenn
Chaverim in Boro Park and Williamsburg have responded to over 75 calls since early Tuesday morning, as flash floods swept the area. Beginning at 4am, calls started coming in from asking for help in removing large amounts of water from their basements and ground-level rooms.
A coordinator for Boro Park Chaverim tells Hamodia that they’ve responded to over 50 calls, with more coming in after 10:30am.
“We had to wake up our volunteers to respond to the calls,” the Boro Park coordinator said. “We have close to 30 members on the road giving assistance…we’re giving out fans, humidifiers, trying to save people from damage to their property,” he said.
In Williamsburg, a coordinator told Hamodia that there have been over 25 calls, almost all in basements and ground floor rooms, with one flood in a 5th floor apartment.
Chaverim of Crown Heights told Hamodia that they responded to two calls, with light flooding. They explained that most of the neighborhood is on a hill, and that the calls they received were from residents who live in the lower areas.
Baruch Hashem, there have been no reports of long-term damage to homes.
