New York City Mayor Eric Adams is “not concerned” with the article about yeshivos published in the New York Times on Sunday, the Mayor said on Monday. “I am not concerned about the findings about the article,” Adams said, in response to a reporter’s question. “I’m not going to look at a story. I want a thorough investigation. I want to do an independent review, and that’s what the city has to do… the chancellor has made it clear that we’re going to make sure every child receives education in the city.”

Fabien Levy, a spokesperson for the Mayor, clarified on social media that the city is already conducting its own investigation.

“The mayor meant the findings of the NYT investigation doesn’t change things — because the DOE already has an active investigation in its final stages that will be comprehensive and thorough,” Levy wrote.

On Sunday, the New York Times ran a scathing report, in both English and Yiddish, claiming that Yeshivos take inordinate amounts of money and do not give children a sufficient education.

Yeshiva supporters say that the report singled out graduates of yeshivos who fell into drug abuse and had other serious problems. They also say that the report had a host of inaccuracies and out-of-context data.
