Three residents of Queens, N.Y., went under water in a lake off of Route 55 on Sunday, and were removed from the water by the local Fire Department and EMS.

New York State Police reported that Basir Amin, 18, of Bellerose, Queens, was swimming at 2 p.m. Sunday afternoon in White Lake in Sullivan County when he began to struggle.

His uncle, Afrid Haider, 34, and sister, Nasrin Amin, 21, tried to help save Basir, but all three went under the water and did not resurface.

Hatzalah volunteers were called to the scene, and after divers from the Bethel Fire Department pulled the three from the lake, Hatzalah performed CPR on the three victims, all of whom were in cardiac arrest.

All three were transported to the hospital while receiving CPR, and Basir was pronounced dead. Afrid and Nasrin are listed in critical condition.
