YERUSHALAYIM – Egypt has warned Iran not to target Israelis on its soil, according to  the Qatar-backed Al-Araby Al-Jadeed, based in the U.K.

The report quoted Egyptian sources as saying that intelligence officials from Cairo recently met with their Iranian counterparts and told them that any attempt to carry out attacks against Israelis in the country would damage ties between their two countries.

The warning was reportedly prompted by Israel notifying Egypt that Iran was considering the staging of a terror attack on Israelis in the country. While Egypt has declined to support alleged Israeli espionage in Iran, it refuses to allow Iran to conduct terrorist operations within its borders.

The report comes days after collaboration between Israeli and Turkish intelligence prevented Tehran-backed attacks on Turkish soil. Israel lowered the travel advisory for its citizens from the highest level to the moderate Level 3 this week, after the immediate danger abated, but Israelis are still being told to avoid Turkey except for essential travel purposes and those already in Turkey have been urged to take precautions.
