YERUSHALAYIM – Firefighters rescued a sefer Torah at a shul in Beitar Illit just moments before the building was completely enveloped in flames on Tuesday.

Fire department units from the Yehuda district were dispatched to Kedushat Levi Street where they entered the burning building to put out the fire and search for anyone who might be trapped there.

As they carried out their work, they encountered an aron kodesh and took out the sefer Torah, bringing it to safety.

Shortly thereafter, the fire continued to burn and quickly destroy the entire structure.

The shul and its environs were closed due to the danger of collapse.

The cause of the fire was under investigation.
