YERUSHALAYIM — The Palestinian Authority struck a pose of indifference to the stunning news of the fall of the Bennett-Lapid government, saying on Tuesday that it makes no difference to them.

“The question is — will we see a political horizon? I don’t believe we will see a dramatic change, whether Netanyahu, or Lapid, or Bennett is in charge,” said senior Palestinian official Azzam al-Ahmad, of the Fatah party, referring to prospects for a peace agreement with Israel.

Al-Ahmad dismisses what the coalition had offered the Palestinians as “crumbs.”

“We don’t want economic ‘achievements’ at the expense of a political process. That’s just unacceptable. Family unification, address changes — this is all immaterial. It doesn’t impact anything,” says al-Ahmad, and ignoring the measures advanced by Defense Minister Benny Gantz in recent months to strengthen the Palestinian economy.

“We weren’t shocked by the fall of the coalition, of course. And whoever comes next will be much the same, whether Netanyahu or someone else,” another senior Fatah official was quoted as saying by The Times of Israel.
