Knesset Committee Approves Bill to Sell Wine After 11 p.m.

The Ministerial Committee on Sunday approved UTJ MK Rabbi Uri Maklev’s bill allowing the sale of wine and grape juice on the eve of Shabbos and chagim, even after the regular 11 p.m. cutoff time, in order to allow consumers to complete their purchases.

“The law harms many consumers,” Rabbi Maklev said in the bill, noting that the wine purchased on the eve of Shabbos isn’t used to immediately drink but to be used in meals, cooking, or for religious purposes such as reciting Kiddush.
