NYC Drops Mask Requirements For Toddlers
By Matis Glenn
NEW YORK – Children aged two to four will no longer be required to wear masks in daycare and other early childhood settings starting June 13, New York City Mayor Eric Adams announced June 9.
Adams, citing falling COVID cases, says this is the next step in getting past the pandemic. “I have always said that the science will guide us out of the pandemic,” Adams said. “And because we have followed the data, which shows that cases are steadily falling, we‘ve beaten back the latest COVID-19 surge. New Yorkers stepped up when we needed them most and have put us on the path to lower risk,” he said.
While no longer legally required, Adams urged NYers “of all ages” to wear masks indoors, and that his administration will “continue to make masks available for any child or school staff member who wishes to continue wearing them.”
Daily COVID testing statistics are trending down, from 10.96% average daily positivity in the last 28, to 7.57% this past week. Hospitalizations are also down, from 86 to 57.
