Man Charged With Vehicular Homicide in Death of Feivy Mandel, Z”l

LAKEWOOD — A Toms River man has been charged for allegedly driving more than double the speed limit, and crashing into and killing 32-year-old Feivy Mandel, z”l, in Lakewood, in March.

Ocean County Prosecutor Bradley D. Billhimer announced Wednesday that Alejandro Huerta-Arias, 23, of Toms River, was charged with vehicular homicide in connection with the fatal March 9 crash.

Huerta-Arias was allegedly traveling 91 mph in 40 mph zone on Madison Avenue, when he struck the vehicle operated by Mandel – who was attempting to make a left-hand turn onto Courtney Road. Mandel was pronounced deceased at the scene.  Huerta-Arias fractured his leg.

Huerta-Arias was charged on Tuesday, June 7, and he surrendered himself at Lakewood Township Police Headquarters on the same date.

Feivy Mandel, z”l, originally from Brooklyn, is survived by his wife Baila and five children.
