YERUSHALAYIM – The Israeli High Court told the state on Thursday that it will be keeping track of progress in the evacuation of the illegal Homesh outpost, The Times of Israel reported.

The three-judge panel, including Chief Justice Esther Hayut, said the state must update the court on its implementation of the ruling to evacuate the utpost within the next two months.

“We have noted the statement of the respondents that ‘[Homesh] will be evacuated’ and that enforcement operations will continue, as specified in their court filing,” they wrote in a brief statement. An update will be expected within two months and “further action on the matter” will be determined accordingly.

Homesh was evacuated by state order during the Gaza disengagement in 2005. However, residents have repeatedly returned to the hilltop to maintain a yeshiva there, which the army has not moved to dismantle.

In addition, a state attorney acknowledged during the hearing that the army has a list of 40 to 45 Israelis who had been approved to reside at the outpost. Thousands have rallied at Homesh in recent months to demand the yeshiva stay and the community be rebuilt.
