Rabbi Litzman signs on his resignation from the Knesset, Wednesday.

United Torah Judaism’s Rabbi Yaakov Litzman, a 23-year veteran of the Knesset, handed in his resignation to Knesset Speaker MK Mickey Levy on Wednesday.

First elected to the Knesset in May 1999, Rabbi Litzman, 74, was the de facto head of the Health Ministry for more than a decade, serving as either deputy or full health minister from 2009 until 2020. He also headed the Knesset’s Finance Committee for many years, and also served as housing minister.

“I conclude with great satisfaction many years of activity in the Knesset, out of gratitude to Hashem who gave me the privilege to serve the public with dedication and loyalty, out of aspiration and duty to make a kiddush Hashem and safeguard the things that are holy for Klal Yisrael,” Rabbi Litzman said.

Former MK Rabbi Yaakov Tessler, number 8 on the UTJ list, is to replace Rabbi Litzman in the Knesset.
