Border Police Thwart Stabbing Attack at Damascus Gate

YERUSHALAYIM – Israeli Border Police arrested a knife-carrying 15-year-old Palestinian who had been planning a terror attack in Yerushalayim, according to security officials.

After the suspect aroused suspicion and attempted to flee, police chased him on foot, and caught him near the Damascus Gate.

The teenager, from Jabel Mukaber, in east Yerushalayim, confessed during interrogation that he was planning an attack in the capital, Yerushalayim District Chief Doron Turgeman said. 

Overnight Monday, IDF, ISA and Israel Border Police forces conducted counterterrorism operations to apprehend individuals suspected of terrorist activities in Yehuda and Shomron, including in the towns of Jifna, Abu Dis, Bayt Lid, Azaria and the city of Chevron.

IDF soldiers arrested one suspect in the Qalandiya Camp. A violent riot ensued, with dozens of Palestinians hurling rocks and Molotov cocktails at the soldiers, who  responded with live fire, in accordance with military protocol.

In addition, the security forces confiscated two illegal weapons, a handgun, and located additional weapons during in the town of Bayt Rima.

A total of eight terror suspects were apprehended overnight.
