Shomrim Member Assaulted After Confronting Thief

BROOKLYN — Two men were arrested Tuesday after assaulting a Boro Park Shomrim member who had confronted a thief Tuesday in Downtown Brooklyn, according to Shomrim.

The Shomrim member, who does low voltage, walked into a construction site he was working at, located at 4th Ave. and Atlantic Avenue, around 1:30 pm, with two of his workers. In the electric room in the basement, they saw a man filling up his pockets with small electrical items.

When they asked what he was doing, the man replied that he was making a delivery, and invited them upstairs to ground level to show them the supposed “delivery.” Once upstairs, the man took off running, and phoned two of his friends to come help.

The Shomrim member and his workers caught the thief, who emptied his pockets of the stolen items. But his two friends then arrived, and began punching the Shomrim member in the face. The thief and two assailants then began running away.

The Shomrim member had radioed for backup, and other Shomrim members and the NYPD arrived at Lafayette and Rockwell Place, where they caught the two assailants, who were placed under arrest. The thief has not yet been apprehended.

Hatzalah treated the Shomrim member at the scene for minor injuries.
