The Kavanas Halev Rebbe, zy”a. (JDN)

The Chassidic world was plunged into mourning early Friday when it learned of the petirah of the Kavanas Halev Rebbe, Harav Shmuel Tzvi Lichter, zy”a, at the age of 85.

The Rebbe was niftar at his home in Boro Park, after years of illness.

The Rebbe was renowned for his vast bekius in Halachah; he remembered every single se’if in Shulchan Aruch. He served as a Rav for many years.

Many would flock to his beis medrash in Boro Park, to witness his avodas hakodesh.

In 5775/2005, his wife, Rebbetzin Henya Kreindel, a”h, was niftar. She was the daughter of Harav Yosef Shalom Spitzer, Hy”d, who was killed in the Holocaust, and she grew up in the home of Harav Hillel Lichtenstein of Krasna, zy”a, who was the father-in-law of the late Rebbe.

The Rebbe is survived by his sons: Harav Shalom Yosef Chaim of Williamsburg, Harav Yehuda of Monsey, and his sons-in-law: Harav Shalom Eliezer Katz, Harav Yechezkel Meizels, Harav Lipa Gross, and Harav Eli Shimon Kaufman.

The levayah will be held Friday morning at 10:00 from his beis medrash at 1656-43 Street in Boro Park to the Long Island cemetery, where the Rebbe will be buried near the grave of his Rebbetzin.

Yehi zichro baruch.
