BD’E – Rebbetzin Hinda Halberstam, A”h, Kiviashder Rebbetzin

BROOKYNHamodia is saddened to report the petirah of the Rebbetzin Hinda Halberstam, Kiviashde Rebbetzin, a”h, who was nifteres Sunday, Pesach Sheini, at the age of 96.

Rebbetzin Hinda née Shapira was born to her illustrious father, Harav Eluzer Shapira, zy”a, who was the Rav in Kiviashde (Mezőkövesd), Hungary before WWII. After the War, the family resettled in Williamsburg, and she married Harav Moshe Halberstam, zt”l, a son of Harav Dovid of Kishanov and an einikle of the Divrei Chaim, zy”a. After the petirah of his father in law, Rav Moshe assumed the position of Kiviashder Rebbe, and had a beis medrash on Penn Street in Williamsburg. Rav Moshe was niftar on 26 Tishrei, 5772.

The levayah of the Kiviashder Rebbetzin took place Sunday afternoon, and began at Yereim Chapel at 2:30, and then preceded to the Kiviashde Beis Medrash on Penn Street. Kevurah was in Kiviashder chelkah in Deans, N.J.

Rebbetzin Halberstam is survived by, ybl”c, three sons: Harav Yitzchak Mordechai, the Kiviashder Rebbe, shlita; Harav Baruch Nosson, shlita, Rav of the Satmar kehillah of London; and Harav Hersh Elimelech, the Barniver Rebbe, shlita; and and four daughters: Rebbetzin Hager, Rebbetzin Friedman, Rebbetzin Teitelbaum and Rebbetzin Rumpler.
