Yesh Atid to Hold First-Ever Primaries
Yesh Atid will hold its first-ever primaries for leadership in Jan. 2022, the party announced on Saturday. Chairman Yair Lapid, who also serves as Foreign Minister, has led the party since its inception in 2012.
While any candidate can nominate him or herself until Dec. 21, no MK has so far expressed interest in challenging Lapid, who is set to become prime minister in August 2023 as part of a rotation agreement with Prime Minister Naftali Bennett.
The announcement comes after years of criticism of Lapid, who has branded himself “the protector democracy,” but has refused to hold Yesh Atid leadership elections for years.
