Protestors Block Off FDR Drive, 45 Arrested

NEW YORK

Protestors blocked roads and the FDR Drive on Monday morning, causing traffic and delays  from approximately 9 to 19:45.

All northbound lanes of the FDR Drive were closed at Jackson Street in Manhattan, and all southbound lanes were closed at West 34th Street and 12th Avenue until around 10, according to Pix 11.

The protestors blocking the northbound lanes are calling on President Joe Biden to implement environmental rules and to pass his “Build Back Better” infrastructure package.

Biden is in New Jersey to promote his agenda and visit bridges and tunnels.

The environmental group Extinction Rebellion took credit for the protest, writing on social media, “Dear commuters: we are interrupting traffic this morning not to annoy you, but to force the public to confront the true dangers of unchecked climate change. If we do not act today, if [Biden] does not act today, NYC will be underwater by 2100.”

Police arrested 45 protestors.
