From Bnei Brak, the news came of the petirah of Rebbetzin Esther Rivka Zacks, a”h, the widow of Hagaon Harav Amram Yitzchak Zacks, zt”l, Rosh Yeshivas Slabodka, at the age of 88.

The Rebbetzin did not feel well and was taken to Sheba Hospital in Tel Hashomer, where she passed away overnight Motzoei Shabbos.

The Rebbetzin was born in Lithuania, the daughter of the Rosh Yeshivah of Slabodka, Hagaon Harav Mordechai Shulman, zt”l, and her mother, Rebbetzin Chayah Miriam, a”h, the daughter of the Rosh Yeshivah, Hagaon Harav Isaac Sher, zt”l. Harav Sher was the son-in-law of Hagaon Harav Nosson Zvi Finkel, zt”l, the Alter of Slabodka.

It was said of the late Rebbetzin that she had both a great yichus lineage and yichus atzmi.

The nifteres was known for her wisdom and middos tovos.

When she came of age, Harav Isaac Sher chose the Harav Amram Zacks, as the chassan of his granddaughter.

All her life, she stood to the right of her husband, who immediately after his marriage began to hand deliver chaburos at the yeshivah, and after the petirah of his father-in-law, Harav Shulman, he was appointed as Rosh Yeshivah.

For many years, her husband, Harav Amram, taught Torah to thousands of talmidim, including leading talmidei chachamim, Rabbanim and Roshei Yeshivah.

The Rebbetzin devoted her life and her kochos to the yeshivah, to the bachurim and to the success of the yeshivah.

She was known as the “Mother of the yeshivah.”

Her levayah was held on Sunday from the Slabodka yeshivah to the Ponevez cemetery in Bnei Brak.
