Thousands of people gathered at the Kosel Thursday morning for the traditional mass Birkas Kohanim event, held on Chol Hamoed of Pesach and Sukkos, on the first day of Chol Hamoed for the Diaspora.
This year, due to COVID restrictions, it was held on both Wednesday and Thursday.
Thousands of police and soldiers were on duty to prevent attacks on the mispallelim, and baruch Hashem, no security events were reported.
Over Sukkos, the Yerushalayim District Police were on alert, with hundreds of police officers, Border Police, and police volunteers fanned out across the city. Multiple security checkpoints have been set up at the entrances to the Kosel area in an attempt to handle the expected crowds.
The public has been asked not to drive their personal vehicles to the Old City during Sukkos. Transportation options include buses, shuttles, and the city’s light rail. Visitors are urged to follow police instructions as well as COVID regulations.
