DC Police Arrest Man With Weapons Near DNC Headquarters

NEW YORK

A man with knives and hateful symbols on his car was arrested in Washington, DC on Monday after being spotted near Democratic National Committee headquarters, the Washingtonian reported.

Donald Craighead, 44, of Oceanside, California, told a police officer he was “on patrol” before beginning to share his racist and antisemitic views, according to the officer.

He was arrested for possessing prohibited weapons after a bayonet and a machete were found in the vehicle, along with a Confederate flag and swastikas decorating the car.

In a statement, DNC Executive Director Sam Cornale said the organization was “thankful” for the Capitol Police’s work and said the “suspect’s apparent views are despicable, and violence .. have no place in our country.”

Less than a month ago, Capital police engaged in a tense standoff with a North Carolina man whose bomb threats shut down several buildings on Capitol Hill. The man, who was taken safely into custody after police negotiations, had threated President Joe Biden on social media.
