BD’E-Reb Baruch Bendet Fischman, Z”l

NEW YORK

Reb Baruch Bendet Fischman, z”l, was niftar on the first night of Rosh Hashana after being stuck by a car in West Palm Beach, Florida. He was 59 years old.

Reb Baruch Bendett, who lived part-time in Florida and part-time in Lakewood, was walking home from shul at night in the neighborhood of Century Village when he was struck and killed by a car. His acquaintances in Lakewood first became aware of his petirah on Wednesday night after Yom Tov.

The levayah will be held in New York.

Mark Rosenberg of Chesed Shel Eemes of South Florida told Hamodia that a police investigation is ongoing, but “as of now, it seems like it was a tragedy, an unfortunate accident.”

The driver said that “he didn’t see him,” Rosenberg said, but added, “it’s a big intersection and big road. It’s almost impossible not to see anybody.”

Rosenberg praised Reb Baruch Bendett for his work with the Florida Jewish community, specifically the bikur cholim he ran to supply food, lodging and other needs for the many patients who came to West Palm Beach for orthopedic surgery.

“He certainly was an ish chessed and always looked out for another Yid,” Rosenberg said.
