BD’E — Mrs. Rachel Kalikstein, A”h

Hamodia is saddened to report the passing of Mrs. Rachel Kalikstein, a”h, of Kew Gardens Hills. She was 89 years old.

Mrs. Kalikstein was born in Sosnowiec, Poland to Harav Yonah Stencel, zt”l, a talmid of Harav Meir Shapiro, zt”l. Rav Stencel moved to Tel Aviv where he was a prominent member of the Rabbinate, and he founded the Mishnah and Halachah Yomis.

Mrs. Kalikstein was the wife of Rabbi Kalman Kalikstein, z”l, a holocaust survivor who learned in Yeshiva Torah Vodaas after WWII. Rabbi Kalikstein was a close talmid of Harav Reuven Grozovsky, zt”l and Harav Yaakov Kaminetsky, zt”l, and authored many seforim including a masterful explanation of the words of the Rambam concerning kiddush hachodesh. Rabbi Kalikstein was niftar on this day in 5747/1987, exactly 34 years ago, with the husband and wife sharing the same yahrtzeit.

The levayah is scheduled for Monday morning at 10:45 at Shomrei Hadas Chapel, 3803 14th Avenue in Boro Park. Kevurah will be at 1:00 p.m. at the New Montefiore Cemetery, 1180 Wellwood Avenue, West Babylon, NY.

Mrs. Kalikstein is survived by her sister, Mrs. Esther Robinson of Kew Garden Hills; her sons Reb Chatzkel of Boro Park, Reb Don of Flatbush, Reb Refoel of Monsey; and her daughter Mrs. Ruti Kirschbaum of Lakewood, as well as many grandchildren and great grandchildren.
