Applications for coronavirus funeral expense reimbursement via FEMA are now open. The applications will cover costs incurred after January 20, 2020, and are capped at $9,000.

The assistance is part of the Coronavirus Response and Relief Supplemental Appropriations Act of 2021 and the Biden administration’s American Rescue Plan Act of 2021, Fox News 5 reported.

“At FEMA, our mission is to help people before, during and after disasters,” said acting FEMA administrator Bob Fenton. “The COVID-19 pandemic has caused immense grief for so many people. Although we cannot change what has happened, we affirm our commitment to help with funeral and burial expenses that many families did not anticipate.”

For those who wish to apply, call 844-684-6333. Applicants are urged to have an additional death certificate that lists the cause of death as Covid-19, as well as funeral expense receipts and the personal information of the deceased.
