Police officers in town of Goshen in Orange County, New York, found themselves chasing an unexpected suspect: a pet kangaroo.

The police chased the marsupial through several streets before wrangling it down.

“He seemed ‘All Hopped Up’,” Goshen officials joked on social media. “We had a hard time catching him.”

Pictures posted on social media showed a confused looking officer holding the kangaroo, which was roughly the size of a medium-sized pet dog.

In the end, the kangaroo, nicknamed Hippity Hop, was safely returned to his owners.

Owning a kangaroo as a pet is legal in many U.S. states. However, many animal experts caution against it, because kangaroos are wild animals with powerful legs and will jump and kick aggressively if threatened, and can cause property damage and injuries.
